I was recently approached by a company asking if they could send me a van mat/carpet for me to review on the website. After conversing with them for a few days to find out the correct mat to fit my Vauxhall Movano campervan, they promptly dispatched the mat to me. So here is the review!
The first thing I had to decide was what colour mat I wanted, because there is a large choice. Standard colours like grey and black, and then more sporty colours like red and blue. I didn't want anything too "loud" in the front of the van, so settled on graphite grey.
The choices didn't stop there though. Now it was time to choose the coloured piping around the edge. Again, a large choice of colour options, and designs - everything from a solid colour, 2 colour stripe, and 2 colour check pattern. As the van is silver, I chose a silver/black piping for the edges.
Next choice, yeah, there's more - did I want a PVC heelpad or carpet heelpad! I chose PVC, as I am always in and out the van with dirty feet from Dartmoor gravel and dirt, so it would be easier to wipe down!
And the last choice was any custom embroidery. I settled on the web address of this site: Vanlife.TV - and chose it in a red colour.
The dispatch of the mat was really quick - arrived within 24 hours, even with the custom embroidery, and when it arrived I was really impressed. There was some concern that the mat might not fit because I had swapped out the double front passenger seat for a single. This concern was short-lived, as the mat fitted fine, and just laid over the top of one of the bolts on the single passenger seat. It would have fitted perfectly had I still had the double passenger seat in place, as the cut out on the mat lined up precisely where the old redundant bolt hole is in the floor of the van.
The van mat is a one piece item that spans across the middle of the van, and encloses both foot-wells. With the mat being tailored, it follows the contours of the van, and the existing rubber matting precisely. The quality felt really good, a nice thick carpet with a durable PVC heelpad. The piping on the edge looked really smart, and the Vanlife.tv embroidery stood out really well in red.
Now this is just a personal thing, but there was a space between "Vanlife." and the "TV" part. I would have preferred it all one word, as in "vanlife.tv". If I had been a paying customer, I probably would have had the embroidery re-done without the space. As I said, this is just a personal thing, and doesn't detract from the actual quality of the mat in any way.
Update: I was contacted by Vanmats UK after they saw this review, and they offered to send another mat with the correct letter spacing. I told them that wasn't necessary, but I would update this review to say they had offered to rectify the Vanlife.tv embroidery! So top marks there! 🙂
With regards lifespan its too early to tell how it holds up over the long-term, but I may do a follow-up article after I have had the mat for 6 months/1 year to update you how it is holding up.
Overall I am very happy with the mat, it looks good in the front of the van and a few friends have already commented on it. I would like to thank Jennie at VanMats UK for arranging to send me the mat. They make mats for all the common types of van in the UK - well worth checking out if you are in the market for some mats or seat covers.
For your reference, this Vauxhall Movano mat will also fit the 2003-2010 Renault Master as well.
